Royal Over-Seas League
Mad Hatters Tea Party
Hosted by
ROSL
Thursday 28th july 2011
ROSL members who
chose to sit out in the garden last Thursday evening (28 June) were
rather surprised to be met by sixty Inter-Clubbers, complete with
mad hats, playing croquet, enjoying Pimm’s served from tea pots and
nibbling on giant cheese straws.
Inter-Club
members enjoyed a feast of scrummy delights served from vintage cake
stands, and wine supped from tea cups. The Flabbergast Theatre
company delighted all with Boris and Sergey’s ‘Puppet Poker Pit’;
uncompromising and exciting physical theatre drawing on the Bunraku
style of puppetry creating a fantastical performance which would
have made Lewis Carroll proud.
Great effort was
made by all to look the part, but the prize for the ‘maddest’ hat
was awarded, most deservedly, to Vincent Syson for his spectacular
musically themed hat adorned with organ stops.
The evening concluded with an
espresso cup of port and a return to the garden to enjoy the
gorgeous summer evening turn to night. A warm thank you must go to
the Vintage Table company for providing the crockery, LKLily for
creating stunning arrangements, the ROSL catering staff, Thomasz and
his team and of course Hassan the chef.
