murder mystery

Friday 8th October
hosted by the army & navy Club

Murder most foul was committed on Friday 8th October at the Army and Navy Club when Lord Havalot was poisoned in the Club's library whilst enjoying a glass of champagne. The 1920s-themed murder mystery dinner was underway.

During the course of the evening, a cast of actors brought the murder investigation to life with tangled plot lines and many motives for his death coming to light. They were aided and abetted by three members of the Inter-Club Group: Leon Renwick, Hannah marshall, justin chilton and anna kleanthous who played their roles with aplomb (and much hamming it up by Leon). Clues were discovered, witnesses were questioned and motives examined over champagne in the library and a three course dinner in the Marlborough room.

The guests on each table worked together to solve the crime, name the murderer and come up with the motive for Lord Havalot's death. Meanwhile, the more poetically minded were writing limericks for the limerick competition. The denouement took place over glasses of port when it was revealed Lady Havalot, the not very grieving widow, had killed her husband by accident whilst trying to murder someone else. The winning table generously shared out the prizes of champagne and wine.

The evening was a great success and everyone enjoyed it immensely. Thanks must go to Sharon Taylor, the banqueting manager, and all her staff at the Army and Navy Club and, of course, to James Scrymgeour, our very own paparazzo for taking the photographs and being the good-natured subject of some of the limericks.
