Hosted by the oriental club

Friday 26th March 2010

On Friday 26th of March 42 members of the Inter-Club group congregated at the Oriental Club to spend an evening in the company of the renowned international pianist Yuki Negishi.

In what was the Inter-Club’s first classical music recital, Yuki performed a variety of pieces celebrating the 200-year anniversary of both Schumann and Chopin. Using the club’s recently acquired Blüthner Baby Grand piano, the audience was treated to six very different examples of the music of these two composers – each of which was brought to life by a mesmerising performance from Yuki in a uniquely intimate venue.

Following the performance around half of the audience stayed at the club to sample the Club’s signature curry. In amongst the popadoms and mango chutney guests took the opportunity to speak with Yuki, not only to request one of her CDs, but also to gain an insight into the life of an international concert pianist.

With dinner finished but the night still (relatively) young, a die-hard group retired from the Oriental to the RAC club to discuss the performance, ogle the Formula 1 racing car in the lobby and drink a wide range of fine cocktails at the bar. Carriages were finally called in the early hours with guests heading home culturally, gastronomically and socially sated. Thanks to Yuki for her magnificent performance and to the Oriental Club for hosting this inaugural Inter-Club event so well.
