a tutored port tasting evening, with
accompanying cheeses
Friday 6th november 2009
Hosted by the
carlton club
Justerini and Brooks of St James’ certainly ingratiated
themselves with the Inter Club collective when they
turned up at the Carlton Club with a fantastic selection
of ports to sample at the recent Port and Stilton
tasting, with varieties ranging from young tawnies to
some full on 40 year old vintages. The latter being
particularly popular as you might imagine, though the
spirit level of this variety ensured that samplers made
a b-line for the superb selection of cheeses that were
on offer in order to guarantee that an appropriate port
to cheese ratio was maintained.
A brief talk on the history and love of port professionally
delivered by Richard Grenfell-Hill of J&B and a post event social in
the Carlton’s Members’ bar book ended an event in which there was as
much emphasis on getting to meet other Club members on the Club
circuit as there was on the fabulous food and drink.
Thanks must go to the Carlton Club and Jordan Howell, the Carlton’s
Inter Club Chairman, for hosting, and Richard Grenfell-Hill and
Justerini and Brooks for supplying Portugal’s finest.
