"The Inter-Club ROSL Centenary summer ball"
friday 25th june 2010
Hosted by
The
royal over-seas league It was a full
house at the Royal Over-Seas League for the evening of the ROSL
Centenary Summer Ball with guests representing from the Army & Navy,
Caledonian, Carlton, Lansdowne, National Liberal, Oriental, Oxford &
Cambridge, RAC, and ROSL.
The dress code - Black Tie with a hint of
purple - was perhaps unfamiliar territory for some of the gentlemen
attending, generating a few phone calls from male guests anxious
that their interpretation would be suitable! Their worries were
unfounded as they and their dab-hand female counterparts looked the
epitome of elegance in their purpureal splendour.
After admiring the beautiful 1910 Talbot
Tourer on display, guest made the most of the favourable weather
sipping the deliciously moreish centenary summer cocktail in the
ROSL Garden followed by a sublime three course meal. Wandering
magician & mind reader, Robert Fox enthralled the audience with his
illusions between courses. After dinner, bar flair expert Paul
Handley wowed his guests with his flaring and a few volunteers from
the audience had the opportunity to get up on stage and show off
their skills (or lack thereof!). With a complimentary cocktail in
hand, the guests continued the evening shaking their thing on the
dance floor to ‘Gefunkt’ or relaxing with a drink accompanied by the
dulcet tones of harpist Jose Antonio Domene (who had arrived
straight from Paris for his performance!) in the Drawing Room. All
in all, a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable evening.
Thanks must go to the rosl and Inter Club
Chairs, conrad purcell and alexandra debarge for putting on such a
fantastic event.
